My experience in and enthusiasm for teaching goes back to my first years in college, when I started to teach prep courses for International Biology Olympiad to high school students. As an international Olympiad medalist, I enjoyed in helping students in large and small groups understand the core concepts of molecular biology, biochemistry, and quantitative fields of biology such as biostatistics and genetics.

While pursuing my PhD degree at Johns Hopkins University, I was awarded a Dean's teaching fellowship to create and teach a new course in statistics and probability aimed for upper undergraduates in biological sciences. I enjoyed teaching students majoring in biology, economics, and engineering disciplines. This experience also taught me how to measure and adapt to the needs of the students as the course progressed. I received excellent feedback from the students and the course was selected in the following year to receive a Dean's Prize fellowship based on student response. Currently, I am a postdoctoral research scientist at Harvard Medical School and that puts me in daily contact with many subjects that I teach.

I'd be happy to consult with you to understand your specific needs and subjects. I can offer help with high school and college-level courses or free studies at any level that suits your needs. Please don't hesitate to contact me. If needed, I'll be happy to hold a free consultation meeting to understand your specific needs. I will never bill a session in which I haven't been able to help my student. Please be aware of my cancellation policy, but also remember that I offer make up sessions when possible.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Let's get started!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biochemistry

I hold a PhD in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University and I'm currently a researcher in Biochemistry at Harvard Medical School. I started teaching undergraduate and high school level Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as an undergraduate student. As a high school senior, I won a gold medal in National Biology Olympiad and a bronze medal in 11th International Biology Olympiad. At the end of college, I took GRE subject test in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a 99 percentile score.

Biostatistics

I have passed with excellent grades undergraduate and graduate level statistics and probability courses during my studies. As a graduate student in Johns Hopkins University, I was awarded a Dean's Teaching Fellowship to design and teach a course in Statistics and Probability theory aimed at students of biomedical sciences. This course met excellent student feedback and was subsequently offered a Dean's Prize Teaching Fellowship to be taught in the following year as well.

Farsi

I am a native speaker of Persian (Farsi) language. I have grown up and lived in Iran for 25 years. In addition to colloquial communication skills, I can teach Persian grammar and reading, as well as basic classical poetry and prose.

Genetics

I'm currently a postdoctoral researcher in Harvard Medical School. I have received extensive education in Genetics (both in Mendelian system and in modern molecular genetics) during college and graduate school. Additionally, part of my work today as a researcher involves experimental eukaryotic and bacterial genetics!

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Microsoft Excel routinely for my work in scientific research. This includes organization, analysis and visualization of data with this spreadsheet program. I'm familiar with both Windows and Apple OS X flavors of MS Excel. I have also worked with free, open-source equivalents in OpenOffice.

Probability

As a graduate student in Johns Hopkins University, I was awarded a Dean's Teaching Fellowship to design and teach a course in Statistics and Probability theory aimed at students of biomedical sciences. This course met excellent student feedback and was subsequently offered a Dean's Prize Teaching Fellowship to be taught in the following year as well. I have passed with excellent grades undergraduate and graduate level statistics and probability courses during my studies.

Statistics

I have designed and taught a course on Statistics and Probability theory at Johns Hopkins University. My method in teaching statistics is to help students connect each statistical subject (such as tests and confidence intervals) to its foundation in probability. I also use scientific computing software to help visualize concepts and to teach computations.
