My name is Theodore, and I am a senior at UMass Boston majoring in English. I would like to gain experience in the teaching/tutoring field so that I may eventually join the Peace Corps as an international English Teacher. I have many published articles from my school newspaper and have an extensive background in a plethora of subjects in the humanities. During primary and secondary school, I took many years of Latin (another subject I can tutor), which has laid the groundwork for my communication and problem-solving skills. I live in Somerville, very close to the Orange Line, so my availability is flexible.

I have proctored the SAT and am familiar with all the tricks to getting the highest possible score. I have tutored English one-on-one for foreign students, most recently a Brazilian medical student who needed help with conversational English and vocabulary. I worked with that student weekly for a few months during the summer. I work very well with international students, as I am both patient of mistakes, and I want to learn about new cultures from around the world. I was captain of my sailing team in high school, a team that had a large amount of ESL students, where the complexity of sailing jargon forced me to learn how to teach new things in a very clear and precise manner. My writing follows this vein, as I focus on a clear and concise writing style that is free of cliches and superfluity. I have taken classes in the professional writing department at my university, including an advanced non-fiction workshop. This class focused on writing and editing academic articles, grounding my background in writing.
