Composition (Music)

In college, I studied music theory for many years. The subjects have included Harmony, Counterpoint, Analysis, and Music History. I have been composing music since age 12 and am the composer for a musical group. My compositional studies have been in Classical music, Jazz, Popular music, and Middle Eastern. I have taught songwriting to students that have gone on to become song writers in their own groups.

Drawing

I grew up watching my grandfather paint. All around me I had family members drawing and this inspired me from an early age to draw as well. In college I took drawing and painting classes but my real education came when I met the great artist Julio Alpuy whom I took drawing lessons from.

Ear Training

As a music major in college, I studied ear training for many years. I studied fixed "Do" and moveable "Do". My studies include traditional Western sight singing/ear training and Oriental sight singing/ear training. Oriental ear training is a a microtonal system which demands a greater precision and accuracy. I have also studied dictation.

General Music

As a music major in college, I studied all aspects of music. I studied Harmony, Counterpoint, Analysis, Music History, Music Performance, Dictation, and Ensemble Playing. My studies include traditional Western music and Oriental music.

Guitar

My experience teaching guitar is extensive. I have studied classical guitar, flamenco, jazz, and Arabic music, and I grew up playing rock music. I began teaching over 13 years ago and have taught hundreds of students of all ages, styles, and levels.
