Education has always been an important part of my life. Growing up with two teachers as parents, the value of education became clear to me at a young age. My love of teaching came as a surprise, as I never thought I would want to follow in my parents' footsteps. Spending six weeks teaching English, Math, Spanish, Drama and Music at Hekima Girls High School, an all-girls boarding school in rural Kenya, completely changed my mind. I found sharing knowledge to be such a joy and enjoyed every minute in the classroom.
Following my time in Kenya, I worked teaching English as a foreign language at ACLE Summer Camps across northern Italy during the summers of 2010 and 2011. I devised and taught lessons incorporating games, songs and theater to students, ages 9-14. Furthermore, I planned and organized the weekly activity schedule in collaboration with camp director and fellow teachers. I also earned my Introductory TEFL Certificate.
Then, I worked as a KG1 English Teacher at Qatar Academy Al-Khor in Qatar for two years (2011-2013). I conceptualized, researched, prepared and executed interdisciplinary lessons to classes of twenty-three second language learners, ages 4-5. As a KG1 Teacher, I communicated and met with over eighty parents regarding academic, behavioral and social progress. Furthermore, I founded and directed Drama Clubs for students ages 8-13 to inspire self expression through the arts. While in Qatar, I was promoted from Intern Teacher to Lead Teacher. During the second year, I was given the opportunity to train, mentor, supervise, and evaluate a new KG1 Intern Teacher.
For the past four months, I have been volunteering as an Italian Language Instructor at a language institute in Boston. I am creating innovative, interactive lesson plans, and teaching basic Italian in an immersion environment to classes of adult students. I am also researching and developing Italian curriculum. I graduated summa cum laude with a double-major in Italian Studies and International Relations from Wheaton College (MA). I became fluent in Italian living and learning in Florence, Italy for a year.
I am an experienced, dedicated, hard-working educator. I am enthusiastic and creative. I incorporate interactive games and attention-holding activities into my teaching. If you are looking for a tutor for Italian, Math (Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus), History, SAT Prep, GRE Prep, English as a foreign language, Music, or Elementary All Subjects, I would be more than happy to work with you.
I took Algebra 1 in middle school and enjoyed it very much. I have always been a strong student in Math. In high school, I tutored fellow students in Algebra. At Wheaton College (MA), I went on to study Multivariable Calculus and Voting Theory.
I have always enjoyed learning and teaching Mathematics. As a high school student, I was a Math Tutor and the Co-President of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. I spent a summer volunteering and teaching Math at an all girls high school. I later went on to study Multivariable Calculus and Voting Theory at Wheaton College (MA). While at Wheaton College (MA), I received a fellowship to independently and collaboratively research Voting Theory.
Having worked as a KG1 Teacher for two years, I have experience teaching English, Math, Science, Music and Art. As a KG1 Teacher, I would often conceptualize and teach interdisciplinary, interactive, tactile lessons. For example, to teach my students about height, I helped them create a cityscape mural. Not only did they learn about height, but they also improved their fine motor skills and learned about painting and working together.
In English, I taught students pre-reading skills through guided reading and read-alouds, phonics, vocabulary, sight words, and handwriting. In Math, I taught lessons on recognizing and writing numbers, counting, shapes, size and capacity, sorting, patterns, position words, and ordinal numbers. In Science, I have experience teaching about the body, the five senses, healthy food and habits, water, and plants. In Music, I taught nursery rhymes and basic patterns with various musical instruments. In Art, I introduced my students to pastels, water colors, tempera paints and more.
I enjoy incorporating instructional games, songs, and theater into my teaching in order to keep the attention of my students and help them learn.
