Hello,
I am a patient, friendly and knowledgeable chemistry tutor with six years of experience tutoring and teaching.
I enjoy helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and concepts to understand the world of chemistry and to succeed in their classes, exams, and careers.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a master’s degree in Education from the Boston Teacher Residency.
Since earning my bachelor's degree I have taught science to a wide range of students, in both formal and informal settings, here in Massachusetts and abroad. I began as a teacher in an after-school program at a small non-profit organization in Cambridge, and later became the program director at a second, similar organization. I spent a short time teaching high school chemistry in Nepal, before coming home to earn my master's degree through the Boston Teacher Residency. In the Boston Teacher Residency I taught 7th grade biology and geology at the Timilty Middle School. After graduating, I traveled to Africa, and taught 10th grade chemistry at a boarding school in Somaliland. Through all of these experiences I have been happiest when I can work one-on-one with a student and support them in the learning process.
As a tutor, I strive to see things from my student's point of view, to explain concepts clearly, and to break down complex tasks into simple steps.
Chemistry is a complex and difficult subject, but having an experienced tutor can make it enjoyable and rewarding.
I look forward to working with you!
- Toby
