Hello potential students and families!
My name is Carolyn, and I could be the perfect tutor for you!
For the past 2 years I have volunteered with an AmeriCorps program, City Year. As my time with City Year has come to an end, I am looking for another opportunity to work with students on increasing their proficiency in English and Math. I worked with 6th and 7th graders, but I am open to working with students of any age. Additionally, I worked with students with learning disabilities, so I am open to working with students who have LDs/IEPs as well!
My job training has given me multiple ways of engaging students in both English and Math AND I have lots of patience for even the most distracted student! I use a combination of worksheets, movement-oriented learning, and hands-on activities to help students reach their full potential and stay on track in school!
I currently have a full time job - tutoring appointments would take place in the evening or on weekends.
***Starting September 1st my schedule will be changing as I will be returning to school to start my Master's in Social Work. I will update my schedule to reflect my new schedule on August 30.***
I look forward to hearing from you!
I work in a class with students who have learning disabilities. ADD/ADHD is one of the major contributing factors to their difficulties with learning. I also have ADD (though now I am medicated) and I have personal as well as professional experience working with students who have ADD/ADHD.
While working in a middle school, I often worked with my special education students on their handwriting. Because of their developmental delays, they often had poor motor skills and by extension, poor hand writing.
I am currently working in a 6th grade learning disability class. I work in particular with a 13 year old who is still struggling with phonemic awareness and phonics. I have received several trainings on the subject of teaching these skills and I work with the school's specialist to support her teachings.
I went most of my academic life with undiagnosed ADD so I had to develop my own systems for studying and retaining information that many different types of learners can utilize (visual learners, kinesthetic learners, etc) In addition, I have learned multiple ways of studying through trainings with AmeriCorps and City Year.
