Hi, my name is Kendall and I'm an undergraduate student double-majoring in Spanish and Gender Studies at Tufts University (outside of Boston). I would love to tutor your child in Spanish or help him or her with college essays!
A fluent Spanish speaker, I have done summer programs both in Spain and Peru and am enrolled in upper level Spanish literature courses in college. I have been studying Spanish since middle school and received a score of 780 on the SAT II in Spanish. I currently volunteer with CORES in Somerville, MA, teaching literacy (in Spanish) to Spanish-speaking immigrants. I enjoy looking at languages through different angles, so I would be happy to come up with a teaching strategy suited to your child's specific needs.
In addition to tutoring in Spanish, I help high school students develop their college application essays. As a college student, my experience with the application process is fresh and up-to-date. I am also a published playwright and have had my writing featured in the Tufts University student newspaper. I am familiar with the Common Application and loved writing both the short-answer responses and long-form essays when I applied to college. I can work with your child on formulating an idea that truly highlights his or her uniqueness, then work on developing a narrative that demonstrates personal growth, and finally polish the overall quality of writing. Together we will focus on conveying a personal voice, using clear language, and building editing skills. Depending on where your child is in the application process, I am happy to meet as few or as many times as is necessary.
I have worked for two years at a summer camp, so I have experience working with all ages of kids. I also volunteered as a peer tutor in high school and know that everyone has different learning styles. I will create an individualized plan with your child to achieve his or her goal, be it completing a project or college application, establishing study habits, or building the foundations for more long-term learning goals. I look forward to hearing from you!
