Hi everyone! I'm a native English speaker with a B.A. in English, an M.S. in Corporate and Organizational Communication, and a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I have extensive ESL teaching experience and can help you with schoolwork, test prep, workplace English, or any other area of the language. I'm a compassionate person who loves reading and writing, and I try to communicate my love of learning to my students.

I teach both students and professionals. I'm happy to work with you to improve your English over the long term or we can study for a test, work on an essay, or get caught up in a class.

I teach general ESL (including reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, and conversation) and test prep (the verbal sections of the TOEFL, SAT, SSAT, and ISEE). I also teach Business English.

I have worked with middle school, high school, and college students as well as graduate students, engineers, doctors, journalists, and bankers. I will work with you to meet your goals.

I am happy to meet with you to discuss your tutoring goals, and I offer the first meeting for free. We can pick a spot to meet that works for both of us. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have a Master's in Corporate and Organizational Communication so I am familiar with what companies are looking for in candidates. Part of what I do in teaching Business English is help students with their resumes and cover letters. I also teach interview prep - whether for jobs interviews or school application interviews.

English

We will work together to develop a program designed to improve your English communication skills. We can work on reading, writing, public speaking, or any other aspect of the language that you need help with.

ESL/ESOL

We will work together to develop a program designed to improve your English communication skills. We can work on reading, writing, public speaking, or any other aspect of the language that you need help with.

Grammar

I teach every level of grammar from Beginner to Advanced.

Literature

Reading literature is a wonderful way to expand your English skills. I've always loved to read and I will try to help you get to a place where you can enjoy reading in English as much as in your native language.

Proofreading

I can help you revise your written work, whether it is academic or professional.

Material I've worked on:
Business
Scientific
Technical - IT, Engineering
Medical
English
History

We will work together so that the final product is a true reflection of your thoughts. In my former career I was a proofreader and an editor, so I have years of experience improving written work.

PSAT

It is important to know the ins and outs of a test before you take it. I can teach you ways to approach the test that are hard to learn from books. Practice will help you raise your score!

Public Speaking

I have a Master's in Communication, as as part of my program I studied and practiced public speaking. I am currently teaching Business English, and I frequently have students who need to improve their public speaking skills for work or for school. I believe that with enough practice we can all become competent public speakers.

SSAT

It is important to know the ins and outs of a test before you take it. I can teach you ways to approach the test that are hard to learn from books. Practice will help you raise your score!

TOEFL

It is important to know the ins and outs of a test before you take it. I can teach you ways to approach the test that are hard to learn from books. Practice will help you raise your score!

Vocabulary

We can build your vocabulary in any subject area you wish - business, science, medicine, TOEFL, etc. I will prepare lists of words for you or we can work with lists you already have from school or from your job.

Writing

How many times have we heard the adage “first impressions are lasting impressions.” It is critical that we make great first impressions, because increasingly we present ourselves for the very first time in writing.

We make written applications to the college or university of our choice. We submit essays and theses to our teachers and professors in our efforts to establish excellent academic records. After we complete our studies and venture out pursuing a profession, we find that employers now require us to submit our resumes online.

If you want to be one step ahead of the competition by improving your writing, let me help. I look forward to hearing from you.
