All of Robert’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Robert’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

ACT English

I have taught SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, and LSAT for many years. I help students assess strengths and weaknesses in the skills being tested. Our first goal is to improve those skills. Next, we move on to taking practice exams and developing strategies that are specific to taking these tests. Those strategies include using the answers to streamline and check work as well as relaxation and time management.

Algebra 1

I have taught and tutored Algebra 1 for high school and college students. In addition, I have written textbooks and study guides for Algebra 1.

Algebra 2

For the past five years, I have taught and tutored algebra as well as written and edited algebra textbooks, study guides, and test prep booklets.

Biology

I have worked as a field biologist in river systems, with captive and wild birds, and at zoos and aquariums. In addition to traditional tutoring, I taught biology to students K-12 in these natural and applied settings.

Calculus

I have taught calculus both in high school and at the University of New Mexico. In addition, I created an online calculus course for a community college.

Discrete Math

For the past five years, I have taught and tutored discrete math for middle school, high school, and college students.

Elementary (K-6th)

For the past five years, I have taught in early childhood and
elementary classrooms at Lesley Ellis School. Lesley Ellis embraced emergent and anti-bias curriculum as well as art exploration inspired by Reggio Emilia. Their philosophy and guidance helped me learn how to gently lead children to explore and then to step out of their way.

I am deeply committed to education. In past summers, my students and I have counted trees, collected bugs, and banded chicks. This past winter we pruned trees with the Charles River Conservancy. In the spring, my Cambridge Science Festival exhibit let passers-by explore and imitate birdsong.

My goal is to excite children about discovering the world around them.

Elementary Math

I have an MFA in Playwriting and an MA in Mathematics because I am passionate about writing and solving problems in creative ways.

For the past five years, I taught preschool through grade 6 at Lesley Ellis School, where we embraced emergent and anti-bias curriculum as well as art exploration inspired by Reggio Emilia. During that time, I taught and tutored reading, writing, English, and mathematics. I have also worked as an editor of elementary mathematics textbooks and study guides.

I encourage students to build on their natural way of thinking, writing, and problem-solving. My goal is to get them excited about finding solutions and discovering the world.

English

I am deeply committed to writing. This past summer, I completed my MFA in creative writing. In addition, for the past five years, I have worked as an educational writer and editor as well as a teacher and tutor of writing.
