I'm a strong writing tutor, and can teach math up through algebra 1.
I studied journalism in college, and I work in the publishing industry -- words, language and the writing process have been an important part of my life, and my ability to use them properly and wisely has afforded me many opportunities I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I want to help others master their writing as well, because I know from personal experience how much of a difference good writing can make.
My math background is less developed, but I was double accelerated through high school, and achieved a 790 on my math SATs. The basic skills are pretty engrained. I'm creative with my explanations and always willing to take the time to make sure my students understand what I'm saying.
My process depends greatly on the needs of the individual student, but with essay help, I like to be involved from the start of the process -- I help focus ideas, clarify goals and guide structure. I do not rewrite -- I advise on what should be rewritten and why, but my students are responsible for solving their own writing errors. Writing is a process, and learning to revise is the most important part. I teach with patience and humor.
I've spent over two and half years in the publishing industry: first at a boutique editing firm in Cambridge, and now at a higher education textbook publisher where I work with freshman composition textbooks. Before publishing, I spent two years writing for various online and print publications, including European Vibe magazine. Most of my tutoring experience comes from helping peers in college, but helped with homework with kids I babysat for -- ages 5-15.
