I am from Pisa, Tuscany. I attended the University of Genova, Italy and received a degree in foreign languages for business and travel (English and Swedish) in 2010. After graduating I have studied teaching methods for Italian as a second language. I obtained the DITALS II level certificate in 2012 (certificate issued by Università per Stranieri di Siena) – I am a certified teacher of Italian as a second language.

I teach Italian in the Boston area since 2011.

My teaching/tutoring method is based on several theories and it is oriented to the student's needs. We discuss the goals in the beginning, in order to give suitable tutoring and keep the student motivated and interested. In general I use a communicative approach, with a notional-functional method.

It is important for the students to develop their own cognitive ability, in order to "learn how to learn". It will be useful for their future in studying more Italian or other foreign languages.

The cultural aspect is taken into great consideration, as it is bonded to the language.
Studying/learning with a good sense of humor is the key!

Great Teacher, Patient, Encouraging, And Knows Her Grammar — Valeria is the best Italian tutor of the 5 we have had over the years. Today she covered idiomatic usages and, off the top of her head, gave me a superb lesson on the subjunctive tense when I asked her during the lesson for help. She uses great examples and gives clear explanations. The lessons, in our case, are conducted in Italian and she is easy to understand. I must add that her English is exc ...
