After graduating from FSU Law, I took and recently passed the New York Bar Examination. While I await admission to the State Bar, I am working on local city council campaigns and I am planning to take the Massachusetts Bar Exam in February 2014.
I graduated from FSU Law with a Certificate in International Law, which allowed me to focus on international law courses. While attending FSU Law, I worked as a research assistant for one of the professors and tutored in whatever spare time I did have. I have tutored Latin since 2007 and French since 2010.
My undergraduate degree is from Boston University where I majored in Ancient Greek and Latin. While attending Boston University, I worked as a writing tutor for the Core Curriculum Writing Program, and I also worked a languages tutor for the introductory levels of Ancient Greek and Latin. Additionally, I am a Writing Tutor for Boston University's CAS Core Curriculum Program.
As a Latin student and tutor, I have worked with most of the major textbooks currently available. I have used Wheelock's Latin, Latin via Ovid and and Ecce Romani. I personally use Lingua Latin by Hans Oerberg.
I am currently preparing to take the DELF French exam, which would provide me with official certification from the French Ministry of Education as a fluent French speaker. I have studied French since I was in middle school and I have lived in France on and off throughout the past years.
I believe in a personalized style of tutoring - each student learns differently and each subject needs a different approach. I can also tutor or offer help for personal statements for admission applications to both college and law school.
I believe I am qualified to tutor Classics because I graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor's in Classical Studies - for which I had to study Roman history, Ancient Warfare, Greek History, and other courses.
In addition, during law school, I worked as a research assistant/teaching assistant for a course that focused on using classical texts (such as Livy's History of Rome or Cicero's philosophical works) to study the origins of our current legal system and morality.
I have been studying Latin for most of the past 12 years. I credit Latin for helping me learn other languages quickly and easily. It has helped with everything from the SATs to the logic problems on the LSAT as well as studying English and foreign literature. Latin is beautiful, complex and incredibly useful language to know. Even if it is not spoken in daily life, one would be surprised by how much it has influenced so much of our culture, our languages and thoughts!
