Hello! I am a recently unemployed Latin and English high school teacher during the year. I left my job because I felt the school I was working for was not concerned enough with helping our students achieve. So, now I want to tutor your child or children!
I have taught in a private high school for three years. During that time, I developed and taught courses for Latin - all four years - freshmen and sophomore English literature, public speaking, and creative writing. Thus I am well-qualified to tutor in those areas, and also in the areas of reading and grammar. I can also help students with essays, be it brainstorming, research methods, or writing.
I have a BA in philosophy and Classical languages and a MA in political philosophy, focusing on the American Revolution and ancient philosophy. I am enthusiastic about history and the other humanities, and I try to integrate all subjects with my students. If need be, I can tutor your student in ancient history or ancient civilization and also American history.
I enjoy tutoring because I can interact with my student at a closer level than in a classroom. In a classroom, I have to teach to 20 students, but with tutoring I can focus on developing a curriculum that fits your child and his or her learning style.
Email me today and we can discuss how I can help your child!
I have long had a love and interest in American history, starting all the way back in 8th grade! I received a 5 on the AP American history test, scored in the 99th percentile for the SAT 2 American History subject test, read biographies and autobiographies of Americans regularly, and love touring historic monuments (most recently, the Freedom Trail of Boston).
I taught a one-semester course twice on the Bible last year, and have taught sections of the Bible in two other classes. Also, I attended St. John's seminary for one year.
I have always enjoyed studying European history, especially the ancient history around the Mediterranean. I especially like discussing important figures in history and how their actions impact us even today.
Though you should never discuss it in polite conversation, I have a long history of discussing politics not only at the dining room table with my family, but also with fellow grad students in philosophy classes. I am especially interested in American political history, such as why this person became president but not the other, or how politics affects history. I have a MA in political philosophy, so I can elevate political discourse to more than just demonizing your opponents.
I have a BA in Classical languages and taught Latin for three years at a private high school. I have helped over half of my Latin students earn national awards on the National Latin Exam. Also, I led my school's certamen team to a second-place finish at Classics Day at the College of the Holy Cross.
Very Special Latin Tutor! — Denis has been enormously successful in building my daughter's confidence in her ability to master Latin. With his own impressive expertise, good humor, and a disciplined approach, he has given her assurance about what she learned last year and a positive anticipation of what she will face this year. As a result of this very productive summer, Latin is no longer the dreaded subject that it was thr ...
