Hello and welcome to my profile! I am a graduate of St. John's High School and a sophomore at Harvard College. I graduated valedictorian of my high school class, and I was chosen as a 2013 Telegram & Gazette Student Achiever, representing St. John's. I am an Applied Mathematics-Computer Science concentrator at Harvard. This past semester, I was a teaching fellow for Harvard's Applied Math 21a: Multivariable Calculus class. I held weekly classes of ~30 students, held office hours, and graded problem sets and exams. I like math and science, and am happy to tutor in math, physics, computer science, chemistry, economics, and SAT prep.

I received the following scores, which are evidence of my qualifications:

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I got an 800 SAT I Math, and 5 on the BC Calculus.

Algebra 2

I scored a 5 on the AP BC Calculus exam. I scored an 800 on the SAT portion of the math exam. At Harvard, I received an A in multivariable calculus and an A in linear algebra and differential equations. I am concentrating in applied math.

American History

800/800 SAT II U.S. History
5/5 AP U.S. History

Calculus

AP Calculus BC: 5/5
AP Calculus AB subscore: 5/5
SAT I Math: 800/800

Chemistry

Fitness

I was recruited to Harvard for rowing: I can coach erging technique and supervise workouts, assign workouts, look at results, and suggest how to move forward. I can help improve erg times for college recruiting. The best time to lower erg times for recruiting is between the spring of sophomore year and the summer going into senior year. I am experienced with the expectations of coaches, both athletically and academically. A fast erg score can make you an (even more) outstanding college applicant!

Physics

800/800 SAT II Physics
5/5 AP Physics B
Currently taking AP Physics C

SAT Math

800/800 SAT I Math
5/5 AP Calculus BC

Spanish

I have studied Spanish since the sixth grade, and I scored a 5/5 on the AP Spanish Exam in 2013. I enjoy working with students on learning introductory Spanish.

Statistics

I scored a 5/5 on the AP Statistics exam in 2013.

Patient, intelligent, and very encouraging — James is my son's first tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and he always thinks of different varieties of helpful ways to help my child improve on his SAT writing and SAT math. In merely a short period of time, my son shows significant improvements on problem comprehension and problem solving.
