Drawing

I took basic drawing and figure drawing, as well as a variety of other classes throughout my college career where drawing was a basic necessity to succeed. In basic drawing we covered the elements of design mostly (line, color, shape, texture, space, and form). In figure drawing we followed along the same terms, but also learned different drawing techniques such as blind drawing (helps you focus on detail), quick sketching (trains your eye to quickly summarize), used a variety of media (charcoal was most popular due to its malleable nature). On top of that, many studio classes required me to keep sketch books of projects I was working on, or required me to sketch out the composition beforehand. Besides charcoal, I've worked with regular drawing pencils, pastels, color pencils, markers, and more.

Macintosh

I have been a mac user for nearly a decade now. I know the basics as well as helpful keystrokes, useful tricks, and some minor troubleshooting. I have experience with both macbooks and imacs.

Microsoft Publisher

I have utilized Publisher in my marketing experience. I've used it mostly to create advertisements and also templates for buttons. I've taught my colleagues in the past a trick or two in harnessing its usefulness! I know basics as well as helpful keystrokes.

Painting

I have the most experience in non-representational painting. I've worked little with oils, mostly watercolors and acrylic paint. I also do have experience with air-brushing, though I'm a little rusty since that was back in high school and wasn't too in depth. I did take a class called color and design where we worked with watercolor and learned how to mix colors to create new ones, how to shade with color, and worked a lot with value. We touched a bit on brushing techniques as well.

Photography

I've only academically worked with 35mm film. I've been taught how to develop and process prints. I've only worked with a Minolta, but I can find my way around most 35 mm cameras. I understand shutter speed, aperture settings and how they correlate with one another, loading and unloading a camera, and focus. All my work was outside of a studio setting however, so I'm not familiar with flashes or working with artificial light.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
