I am an experienced elementary school teacher, having taught in both the US and the UK for a total of 6 years. I have a BA in Education from Moray House College, which is now part of Edinburgh University.
I was raised in the UK but have lived in the US for some thirty years. I used to joke that I am bilingual as I can translate American English to British English and vice versa. There are some differences between the two in style, as well as spelling and terminology. Having lived here in the US for so long, I consider myself an American but still go "home" to visit family in the UK.
I especially enjoy teaching English to help non-native adults lead fuller lives here in the Boston area.
I am an experienced elementary school teacher, with a BA in education from Moray House College of Education, which is now part of University of Edinburgh in Scotland.I have taught classes from Kindergarten through Grade 5 in public schools in the US and the UK. I have taught many children to read, mostly while teaching Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes.
The TOEFL test is extremely difficult. Many people fail the test the first time they take it, and many also fail the second time. Apart from being able to read, write, listen and speak English at a high level, students have to be ready and able to work at the university level and be critical thinkers.
Although I am retired now, I was a professional writer for many years. I was also a manager of both writers and editors until very recently. As a manager, I functioned as an editor for my staff. Previously, I taught elementary school children in Maine and Massachusetts, teaching all the basic subjects, including reading, writing, and arithmetic.
