I earned a certificate to teach English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL certificate) from the Boston Language Institute in 2009. I enjoy helping recent immigrants from various countries learn practical English to meet their daily work and living needs. Recently, I helped groups of European teenagers improve their English and learn about American customs. I have helped professionals from Europe and South America learn English business phrases and jargon so that they can participate in business meetings and converse with their colleagues at work. I have tutored a few adults who are fluent in English to prepare for the TOEFL exam. In addition to teaching English, I enjoy helping people learn about life in the US.
For the first lesson, we will meet in a public place, perhaps a coffee shop or at the local library. We will spend some time evaluating your English level to identify what you most need and want to learn. I am very flexible. Your lessons could include conversation, grammar, writing, and practical vocabulary your needs, and also give you the opportunity to practice day-to-day activities, such as shopping, cooking, understanding the news of the day, and practicing the vocabulary necessary for certain jobs. Although I think students know best what pace and difficulty they are comfortable with, I do encourage students to maintain a pace that lets them see progress quickly. My goal is for my students to be able to converse well in English socially and to use English fluently to work well in their chosen fields.
