Hello!

I currently work as a licensed (MA State, MA Department of Education) and certified (ASHA) school-based Speech-Language Pathologist.

I have two years of formal experience as a tutor, and more than four years of working as an educator working with students in 1:1 -1:3 ratios on individual learning skills.

My instructional expertise is within the area of expressive and receptive language with a focus on reading and writing. I currently work with students who are in upper elementary and middle school (4th-8th graders) on skills that include -- but are not limited to, organization, planning, brainstorming, formulating responses, comprehension, sentence struture/grammar, spelling and reading. These areas of instruction have an impact on ALL content areas of learning (English language arts, history, science and math)!

I have experience working with students who have special needs including Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD/ADHD, Executive Functioning, Cerebral Palsy, etc., and take pride in my ability to modify lessons to meet the needs of different kinds of learners.

I especially enjoy creating unique materials and strategies to supplement one's learning (i.e., For a young woman who struggles with the grammar element 'is/are', I use images of popular popstars and groups as visual aids). I find that my students respond well to my enthusiastic approach, and engage well in lessons.

When working with these students, I have created lessons focused on attention skills, as well as instructed students in how to effectively use compensatory strategies (planners, graphic organizers, mnemonics, songs) as a means to enhance their performance in the classroom during academic lessons.

Aspergers

In my profession as a Speech-Language Pathologist, I have experience working with students who have Aspergers. When working with these students, I have created lessons focused on social relationships (pragmatics), and high level language skills such as idioms,etc. When working with these students, my focus also emphasized the importance of social and conversational cues.

Autism

I am a licensed speech-language pathologist who is certified to work with students who have autism spectrum disorders.
