Having had much coursework and being very well-read, I am seeking to expand from my position tutoring all levels of English at Berkshire Community College into some private business. A published writer and having formerly worked as an editor, I specialize in teaching the craft of writing clearly, concisely, and powerfully. However, my secondary strength is sharing my enthusiasm for literature with students, helping them to understand and appreciate the various literary forms and techniques and thus become deeper, more reflective persons. Of course, none of this is possible without grammar, which I am also able to instruct in systematic and meticulous fashion.
I am also a competent French speaker, having attended university in Québec, and understand Latin grammar well, and thus would certainly be able to teach elementary or intermediate courses in these subjects. A good understanding of history--from the times of the Greeks up to our present day - also leads me to offer my services in the instruction of history. I am also able to teach algebra and geometry, though I opt not to teach trigonometry, calculus, or the sciences.
I am certified at level one by the College Reading and Learning Association. References are available upon request.
I look forward to working with you.
