With years of experience, I believe in patient teaching that includes fun and high standards. This means that I will get you playing with great technique and help you to play pieces from the first lesson that you can hold the instrument. I began teaching as an extension of a high school class and enjoyed helping younger students learn to play.
My Master's in Music Education was earned at The Boston Conservatory, under two wonderful mentors, Patricia McCarty and Magdelena Richter. These two have had important playing careers but also understand the importance of teaching basics. It was at their suggestion that I researched and then studied to get my Suzuki Certification. Suzuki is great for the ear training, parent involvement and creativity that the method fosters.
My students enjoy learning classical pieces mixed in with folk and fiddle. I encourage students to play in an ensemble because this develops reading and playing skills.
I have taught in the Boston are for over a decade. I am Massachusetts and Suzuki Certified and can take students from first note to college auditions. I also enjoy teaching adult beginners and continuing students. It is so rewarding to watch a student overcome obstacles and accomplish goals. Everyone can learn music on a meaningful level. I take students where they are today and help them meet goals. It's never too late and rarely too early. I teach in person and online as well.
