My name is Kim and my background is in elementary and early childhood education. I received my BA from Umass in Elementary Education. I have had experience in classroom settings, small group settings, and one-on-one situations with children from toddler age to sixth grade. I left the field to become a stay at home mom to my four children. I have continued to volunteer at my children's school and run our Sunday School program at church. I am currently working as a tutor for elementary/preschool children. I have tutored students in Math, ELA, reading, and MCAS prep. I am also working as a preschool teacher.
My approach to teaching is understanding that each student has his/her own learning style. In a small group or one-on-one situation I am able to meet the child's own needs, gearing lessons particularly for him or her. This is a luxury that I did not have as a classroom teacher. I often use games and other hands-on activities, engaging students in learning experiences. I feel that communication between myself and parents is essential. I have found tutoring to be incredibly rewarding. When a student feels successful, I feel successful! I appreciate your consideration and look forward to meeting you and your family!
