I took Algebra 1 in the 8th grade and have earned all A's, mastering simple equation solving, polynomial manipulation and factoring and solving word problems. I also had my first exposure to flow charting which was a computer programming tool in the 1970s.
I tutored a student with Algebra 1 from 1983 to early 1984 and another student through WyzAnt late spring of 2014.
I took Algebra 2 in the summer between the 9th and 10th grades and have earned all A+s. This included more complex equation solving, polynomial manipulation and factoring, solving word problems, logarithms, analytic geometry, and complex numbers. I won numerous awards in high school for outstanding scores in mathematics competitions.
I have an interest in astronomy going back to when I was in the 4th grade where I looked at
the final chapter in the general science text book which happened to be on astronomy and it
caught my interest. I have done several astronomy-related projects during my high school and college years. I also have been an amateur astronomer for the past 44 years. I own two telescopes and have related web pages on my website and a blog.
I have recently tutored a college student on Astronomy. I received a five-star rating from
the student on WyzAnt.
I took Calculus courses in the 11th and 12th grades and Freshman year in college and have earned all A's and A+'s. This includes limits, derivatives, integration, multivariate and vector calculus. I was the math guru on my dorm floor in college. I also graded calculus papers in college.
I took a course in Ordinary Differential Equations during my Freshman year in college. I also took courses in Boundary Value Problems and an Applied Mathematics course that used Differential Equations during my Sophomore year. I took a course on Numerical Solutions of Differential Equations during my Senior year. I earned A's in all of these subjects. I graded papers in college and was a Teaching Assistant in graduate school for several mathematics courses.
I took Geometry in the 9th grade and earned all As. This included proofs, similar triangles, measurement (areas, volumes) and solid geometry. I won numerous awards in high school for outstanding scores in mathematics competitions.
I built and maintained my first two websites - my personal site and one for my church starting in 1997 and 1998 by using the web site building tools in Netscape. I was also Webmaster of the MIT Club of Boston, an alumni club, from 1999 to 2004 when I taught myself HTML and Dreamweaver. I have also taught myself image editing using tools such as Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop. I won an award from the MIT Club of Boston in 2000 for outstanding work on their website.
I have very recently tutored a student in HTML and received a five-star rating from WyzAnt.
I took two Linear Algebra courses in college and have earned the equivalent of A's in both courses. The first course was titled 'Matrices and Linear Algebra' and I took it during my sophomore year. The other course was titled 'Intermediate Linear Algebra' and I took it during my junior year. The courses covered topics such as matrix algebra, using matrices to solve systems of linear equations, determinants, vectors, vector spaces, linear transformations and eigenvalues. I have used some of these concepts to run the Matlab scripting language at my most recent job.
I bought my first digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 950, in 1999. I have since bought and used several Nikon and Canon and one Fujifilm digital cameras. I am the official photographer at my church. I also photographed events while I was Webmaster of the MIT Club of Boston, an alumni club, from 1999 to 2004. I use Adobe Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro for my photo editing.
I also led a few digital photography-related events held by the MIT Club of Boston in 2003 and 2004 including a how-to event.
I took Analysis in the 10th grade and have earned all A+s. The course included trigonometry, complex numbers, symbolic logic, more complex equation solving, more advanced polynomial manipulation, solving word problems and logarithms. I won numerous awards in high school for outstanding scores in mathematics competitions.
I took the SAT in high school where I scored 780 in the SAT Mathematics Examination. I also achieved a perfect 800 in the SAT Math Level 2 Achievement test during my senior year in high school. I have also tutored a student in SAT Math through WyzAnt recently.
I took Probability and Statistics courses in college and graduate school and have earned the equivalent of all A's and B's. This included sampling, estimation, regression, correlation and hypothesis testing. I was also a teaching assistant in graduate school. I have generated and used statistical plots such as box plots and scatter plots at my most recent job for analyzing weather sensor data.
I learned trigonometry when I took Analysis in the 10th grade and earned all A+s. This includes solving triangles (Law of Sines, Law of Cosines), identities and analytic geometry-related topics. I won numerous awards in high school for outstanding scores in mathematics competitions.
I tutored a student in HTML in 2013. He was pleased with my work. I have degrees in applied mathematics from MIT (Master of Science) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Bachelor of Science) with much course work in statistics.
