I am a highly motivated and experienced teacher who holds 3 Massachusetts teaching certifications. These include History, Political Philosophy, and Moderate Special needs. For the last 14 years, I have worked in a high school language-based disabilities program teaching history, government, health, and basic computer skills.

I also am a certified EmPOWER instructor. This is a expository writing strategy that has proven to be a major factor in helping not just regular education students pass MCAS but also helps students with disabilities perform better on this state mandated test.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am moderate disability certified teacher in the State of Massachusetts. I have for 16 years worked with students with different levels of learning skills including student with ADD/ADHD. I have developed a number of strategies that help students focus and reach higher levels of academic success.

Aspergers

I have for 15 years worked in a collaborative program for high school language based disability students. Many of these students were diagnosed with Aspergers. I have modified lessons so to help these students find higher levels of academic success.

Public Speaking

I am an advanced speaker Silver level in Toastmasters International. I have held the office of Vice President of Education in this internationally recognized public speaking club. I have helped a number of people to overcome their fear of public speaking and to become more effective communicators.

Social Studies

I am certified in Social studies as a grade 6 - 12 in the Commonwealth of MA. I have taught for 15 years in this subject area.

Special Needs

I am a teacher with Massachusetts certification for teaching students with Moderate learning disabilities. For 16 years I have taught in special needs programs working primarily with history students, but have also taught in math, computer skills, health, and assistive technology.
