Marion was the best. She understood my thought processes and helped me learn where to improve my decision making when it came to difficult problems. She taught me how to determine how to tackle a problem the correct way, but also the easiest way. She was patient, outgoing and most of all, there was no problem she couldn't explain to me and succeed in making me understand how to solve it. Marion was excellent. I wish I had her for a professor in college.
We engaged Marion to provide tutoring for our 8th grade son who was struggling with algebra. Marion arrived at the tutoring sessions on-time and prepared. She was able to assess his skills and identify the areas where he needed to focus. Her style is supportive and focused. Our son remained engaged throughout the two hour sessions (significant for a 13 year old!) and got a lot out of Marion's teaching. We would definitely use her in the future and feel confident recommending her to others.
Marion tutored both of my kids, one age 16 for the SSAT, and one age 12 for the ISEE. Both of them recently took their exams and both commented on just how confident they felt going into their tests knowing that they had put significant time in with Marion. In short, they felt ready. I'm so thankful and happy to have found Marion. I was referred to WyzAnt by a friend and I discovered Marion from reading all of her positive reviews. I will say that the reviews were very helpful and they were spot on! Marion has been such a tremendous help to us and my children. She is always very prompt and she wastes no time getting down to business and teaching her lessons. Somehow she managed to make the lessons tolerable for my kids and that's not an easy task with energetic kids! I enthusiastically recommend Marion to people in search of an expert tutor!
As a partner in a CPA firm, I know how hard it can be to teach accounting in a way that makes it understandable. Marion has been working with my son for the past year and it has been a wonderful experience for him. My son has done great in his accounting courses and and Marion has been able to get him to understand those concepts that he struggled with in class. I can not say enough about her teaching style and commitment to taking the time needed to get the job done. Many thanks.
I just recently completed 3 sessions with Marion and they were very helpful. I reached out to Marion because I was taking a pre placement exam into Nursing School and needed some extra help with learning math. Marion was very accommodating with my last minute schedule and she came to my house which was great, so no travel necessary. I recommend Marion because she is so sweet, very patient and a great teacher.
Marion was the most patient, kind & flexible tutor I've ever had! Highly recommend for any subject as she is pretty savvy in just about everything! Loved studying with her. Thanks for all your hard work!
Excellent teacher in one word. My daughter improved a lot after working with her for one year. She is in 6th grade and getting ISEE lessons with Marion. I hope her success in the near future.
Marion worked with our 11 year old son to help him prepare for the ISSE. Our son really enjoyed having her as his tutor; she did a great job guiding him in his preparation, and she was very patient with a knack for engaging him in the lessons. I found her to be a very pleasant person to work with, and she was always prompt and efficient. I would highly recommend Marion as a tutor!
First, I have to thank Marion for being so patient with me and guiding me to achieve my goal. I could not have asked for a better tutor. She was always willing to help me out and I truly believe she is one of those people that would go out of her way to help others. I have to also thank her for putting up with me.
Thanks to her tutoring, I was able to double my score and finally achieve my goal on my test. If you would like somebody to help you out and be extremely patient and best of all and excellent tutor, I will recommend Marion without a doubt! Thank you so much, and I hope in the future if I ever need of your service, you would be available.
Marion was an excellent tutor. She was patient and took her time explaining. As an adult leaner out of school for sometime, there was a lot for her to review with me. I am about to take the GRE and I feel she helped me a lot with the math portion. I would highly recommend her.
Marion is an excellent tutor. She is very flexible and a pleasure to coordinate with. She came to our house and was extremely prompt for each of the sessions. She is very patient and worked well with our son. She will work with you and your student to target any deficiencies. We scheduled tutorial sessions between the second and third time our son took the SAT and saw his score increase 100 points! We will be scheduling additional sessions for the next offering of the SAT.
This lesson was fantastic. Marion is very patient and she knows her stuff! She explains everything to me until I get it and she shows me ways that MAKE SENSE. I enjoy our sessions and look forward to working on more math next week!
Marion is great, I've learned a lot from her. She's very patient and explains things very clearly. Can't wait for our next tutoring session.
If I could have given her 6 stars I would have for every minute she was here from the first. She knew right away what had to be done and did it in a pleasant way. WOW!!!!
Marion is a knowledgeable, professional, and prompt tutor. She was able to teach my son many math skills he had been lacking. Always with a patient yet fun approach, each session was filled with the ingredients for success. Her reading, writing, and math skills have proven to be an asset. Marion brings many skills to the table that enable her to be a strong and productive tutor.
I can't say enough about how wonderful Marion has been. She is a fantastic tutor who takes her job very seriously, and has a genuine demeanor as a tutor. Before finding Marion, I was getting nervous that my 6th grade daughter wasn't prepared enough for the ISEE. Fortunately, Marion has put my mind at ease as she has worked so well honing in on my daughter's needs during their 2-hr sessions each week. In addition, Marion is extremely accommodating, flexible and very responsive to e-mails, phone calls, etc. She is a true professional and we are grateful we found her!
I took the ASVAB 5 years ago. I took a practice test after studying with Marion for only a month or two and scored more than 10 points higher on the practice tests which normally score 10 points lower than the regular test. This has greatly increased my confidence going into the real ASVAB exam for the US Army. Marion has always been very patient during our lessons and if I don’t understand something she makes sure I do by incorporating different methods and approaches. This helped to eliminate any embarrassment or hesitancy I might have felt in asking questions about the material we were focusing on. She always makes the most out of the time available. If we finish a lesson early we use the extra time to review what we've worked on. Oftentimes, if there was study material I needed she would obtain it for me and let me reimburse her. I feel really fortunate to have Marion as my tutor and highly recommend her.
Marion is kind, patient, and professional while also managing to be funny and personable, which makes every session with her a breeze and worthwhile. Marion tutored me for the TEAS V exam for a little more than a month (a total of 9 sessions) and succeeded in teaching me two things: math and confidence. I went from having no clue how to do most of the math and Marion managed to make me comfortable with the material, so that I could focus on the problem and boost my overall confidence with math and test anxiety. She was very easy to get ahold of through e-mail and always very accommodating with scheduling. We met at the Thomas Crane Public Library, where she would have booked a private study room for our two-hour sessions. This environment was very conducive to my learning, and she was always prepared for our meetings. With her help, I managed to get an 83.3% average for the TEAS V mathematics section, which I am very pleased with. It was a great pleasure to work with Marion, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for help with the TEAS V or math in general.
Marion has been teaching my 12 years daughter for about a year, and I'm very pleased with the result. Not only has my daughter made significant improvement with math, she also overcome a fear of math. Marion is a knowledgeable and patient tutor with nice personality and good communication skills.
Great tutor. She explains everything well makes sure you understand it before moving on to the next thing. Very flexible with hours. On time all around number one tutor.
Marion is always on time, utilizes every minute of the tutoring session. My daughter is responding well to her method of teaching and is showing great improvement in the areas she needs to be successful in her future endeavor. I also feel that Marion is reasonably priced in comparison to other tutors.
Great tutor that understands what you are trying to accomplish. Has great patience and would recommend Marion to anyone looking for an ACT focused tutor.
Marion is a great tutor and has helped my daughter in Reading and Math. My daughter really enjoys working with her. I am happy that I met her. I have full confidence in her ability to help my daughter.
My daughter was struggling with math until Marion started tutoring her. She went from a D to a B in only a couple of months! She has also helped her write a paper that she got an A plus on! Most of all, my daughter says she makes it easy and fun!
An excellent tutor helped me a lot with my asvab scores. Is always on time if not early and focuses on the areas you need help
Marion really likes her students and they can feel it. My daughter looks forward to her tutoring time. She uses every minute with her teaching and drilling. Really makes her work. My daughter's teacher can see the increase in her self esteem and confidence. She participates more in class.
Marion has been working with her since February and my daughter made the honor roll for the first time after starting in a new charter school four levels behind in reading and math! Marion's great!
My son said she was very helpful, he had a grasp after a 2 hour session with Marion. My wife and I thought she was very nice, professional and prompt. She spent the entire 2 hours with my son, and with another session next week we can only hope and practice retention. Great referral, thank you Wyzant.
We feel very fortunate to have found Marion to help tutor our son for the ISEE exam. She is knowledgeable about the exam and was able to give us some helpful information about test taking. Marion is very easy to get in touch with. The first session went extremely well, she was very prompt, came well prepared and was easy to work with. One of the most important things was my son enjoyed the session and is looking forward to his next one. Thanks Marion!
4 stars tutor!
Marion recently tutored me to prepare me for my GRE exams. She was always well prepared for our sessions, often times she made packets up for me to practice besides what I already had in my book. Whenever I needed explanations of problems she was able to explain them to me in ways that made sense. She was also always on time and would work with me for a the complete time period. Marion is very knowledgeable and I would highly recommend her to help other people learn!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The Cooperative Admissions Exam (COOP) and the High School Placement Test (HSPT) are entrance exams for admission to Catholic high schools. The COOP consists of seven sections which test a student's verbal reasoning, reading, and language arts skills, as well as math skills. The HSPT is divided into five sections, and it also tests verbal and math skills. I am currently successfully tutoring students for WyzAnt in these subject areas.
Tutoring elementary school-aged children has always been a treat for me. Whether I am tutoring math, English, or general study skills, building up a child's confidence to do schoolwork is a priority with me. When children are supported by a kind, encouraging tutor and more clearly understand their academic subjects, they feel empowered to work even harder.
Learning English for ESL/ESOL students is about developing the necessary written and communication skills to be able to function effectively in daily life in an English-speaking society. Conversational and pronunciation skills are critical for students so that they can converse with and understand others at department stores, at the doctor's office, at the auto repair shop, etc. In addition, it is important that non-native speakers be able to speak or write down the appropriate information about themselves when required(e.g.names,addresses,dates,etc.when filling out forms) And too, ESL/ESOL students must become familiar with the often confusing idioms and colloquialisms of native English speakers.
I have helped former non-native speakers of English become more adept at speaking and communicating in English, and thus, I believe, happier. I am a native English speaker, and a personable teacher. I have a sense of humor, and I love helping others to learn. You'll probably pick up my Boston accent!
The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE), geared towards elementary school students, tests reading comprehension and math, as well as verbal and quantitative reasoning skills. The essay is not scored, and is sent only to the schools requested by the students. The purpose of the exam is to provide schools with information about the students' strengths and weaknesses in math and English, and to assess their capacities for learning academic subjects. I have previously tutored students in the lower, middle, and upper grades to achieve success in this exam.
Praxis I,PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test) evaluates individuals for entry into teacher education programs and may also be required by some states as part of their teacher licensing process. Praxis I consists of three parts: Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Praxis II, PLT (Principles of Learning and Teaching) consists of elementary education tests and subject assessments in Science, English, Mathematics, and Social Studies for those prospective K-12 teachers of these subjects.
I have successfully tutored prior students in Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Thus, I am quite comfortable tutoring Praxis I and the English and Math sections of Praxis II.
As a practicing CPA and as an "A" student over the course of my lifetime, I have discovered the most efficient and effective ways to learn subject matter and how to score well on examinations. It's not always a matter of struggling to read every word in a textbook that gets you the knowledge you need, or the "A" grade. Just like real life, it's often a matter of knowing what is required of you, and addressing those areas first and foremost.
Too often, students "spin their wheels" on areas from which they will not maximally benefit. They get frustrated going around and around in circles, not understanding something. They lose their confidence, say negative things to themselves, and give up. My approach is to rebuild a student's confidence and enthusiasm for learning so that he/she will be able carry on after the tutoring is finished.
The TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) exam is a requirement by certain schools for admission into their nursing programs. The TEAS exam consists of four sections: Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. I have successfully tutored prior students in all of these subject areas.
