My name is Nathan. I am 19 years old, and I am a freshman at UMass Amherst majoring in mathematics. I entered UMass as jazz bass performance major but switched to math because the requirements were very rigorous and could not see myself learning upright bass.
I graduated in the top 5% of my class at Plymouth South High School in Plymouth, MA. My curriculum consisted of either Honors or AP classes, and I was an honors student.
Apart from academics, I was heavily occupied with the music department. I have been playing bass guitar for six years now and will be learning the upright bass at UMass. I also started playing the alto saxophone at the beginning of my senior year and many have told me that I am very skilled for only eight months of playing. I also have starter experience on piano and guitar. My sophomore and junior years of my high school career were more focused around vocal performance. I performed in my high school's Vocal Point, a collegiate level chamber choir, and in the Jazz Choir which won first place at the national Jazz Festival.
Although I appear to be very centered in music, I also have a passion for mathematics. Math has always been my favorite subject in school. I was happy to recently find out that I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus exam I took in May 2012. I also scored a 3 on the Physics B and a 4 on the Psychology AP tests.
For anyone who needs help in any area of math (primarily Algebra-Calculus I), lessons in bass guitar, or music theory tutoring, I would be glad to help.
- Nate
