Let me introduce myself. I am Linda M. -- educator, actress, and writer. I am certified to teach Moderate Special Needs and Social Studies, grades 5-12, and have taught in elementary, middle and high schools. Currently, I work as the Special Needs Coordinator for the religious school at Cong. Sha'arey Shalom in Hingham, and as a substitute teacher in Plymouth, Carver, Kingston and surrounding towns. I am also a solo historical performer, playwright, and published author.

First and foremost, I love the process of learning and want to share that passion with students. Throughout my career as an educator, I have used my creativity to make learning an exciting adventure and a joyful enterprise. My journey as an educator has had many twists and turns, but has always been motivated by my intense curiosity about the world and my commitment to share that with my students.

I earned a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. I attended graduate school there in the Department of Behavioral Disabilities where I earned multiple certifications to teach students with mental retardation, learning and emotional disabilities. I taught students with moderate special needs in Madison, Wisconsin for five years.

After moving to Boston, I developed a career as freelance editor and writer for major textbook publishers -- Houghton Mifflin, Prentice Hall and Glencoe. I worked on language arts, reading, social studies textbooks and workbooks. I became a specialist in writing lessons for critical thinking skills and organizational/study skills, which are crucial for all academic success.

Working as a textbook editor motivated me to develop a new career. While textbooks are important educational tools, they also can be very DRY! I wanted to use my creativity and skill as a writer and actress to bring history alive for students. I founded and directed a touring theater company, History-Making Productions, which created original participatory plays for students based on literature and history. I was the executive director and principal playwright/actress of this company for twelve years. Now I continue to perform solo historical plays as Abigail Adams, Amelia Earhart and singer Sophie Tucker. It is quite possible that your child has seen me perform at his or her school.

In recent years, I have supplemented my performing work by teaching and substitute teaching in Plymouth, Kingston and Carver, and developing a tutoring clientele.

My strongest areas are: history, all social sciences, writing, reading, language arts, Spanish, Hebrew, life sciences, elementary & middle school mathematics. Also, I am an excellent writing coach and editor and would love to help your high school student write their college entrance essays, or prepare for the writing portions of the SAT and related tests.
