My name is Frank. I just graduated from Salem State, with a degree in English and secondary education.
I am far older than typical college age (in fact, I have a daughter in high school!) and have years of life-learning I bring to my task. Although I am new to WyzAnt, I have extensive tutoring experience. Currently, I am, in addition to substitute teaching, tutoring with a company that brings middle and high school aged students here from Korea. I help the high schoolers with their English classes from school and am constructing an ESL class for the middle schoolers. I've worked as a private tutor, as a tutor in SSU's writing center, and did some one-on-one tutoring when I was doing my student teaching. In addition to formal tutoring, I have lots of proofreading and editing experience for everyone from my classmates to friends to my daughters. I've been a writer my whole life, am very good at it, and am adept at passing on what I know.
I have tutored students from elementary school to college and can tutor any age. Middle and high school students are, however, my specialty.
I am in the process of applying for full-time teaching jobs, having recently received my Massachusetts Teaching License in 8-12 English. I am fully aware of what Massachusetts schools ask of their students, including MCAS, and would be an asset to a student attempting to maximize their English grades and MCAS scores. I'm also well acquainted with the requirements of the reading and writing portions of the SAT and can help a student maximize those scores.
I would consider writing my specialty and could definitely help your student improve their writing, no matter what difficulty they might be having. I'm also very skilled at working with students on reading comprehension and have a particular knowledge of and affinity for two of the reading assignments high school students often struggle with: poetry and Shakespeare. I'm also an experienced and accomplished ESL tutor, focusing on students who have some level of English language learning and want to improve, not only in writing but also in speaking. My Korean students that I currently work with fall into this category.
I'm very easy to get along with. I love working with students--I love it even with a whole class, so one-on-one is particularly enjoyable. I will be able to focus in on what your student needs, and work with them to improve.
