I have been a teacher, volunteer Big Sister, and coordinator of after school programs for 12 years. I love teaching, especially as it occurs in tutoring, in a one-on-one or small group setting. I am creative and do my very best to be attuned to the needs and goals of my students. I understand that learning is best achieved when enjoyment and interest are maximized.
I am currently enrolled in a Masters in Elementary Education (M.Ed.) program at Lesley University and am doing student teaching in 2nd grade. Prior to this, I worked as an instructor in the Rabat American School’s Elementary Library, where I assisted and substituted for the K-5 library classes and wrote and taught library reading curriculum for the preschool level.
I am a certified Teacher of English as a Foreign Language, and have experience teaching in the United States and Morocco, where I have taught classes of youth ages 7-10, 11-13, and 14-adult. I have written and implemented ESL curricula at an intensive summer program for youth. I am fluent in French and Spanish and among the students I have tutored is a young autistic French-speaking boy. I have tutored students of diverse backgrounds in reading and elementary mathematics and in each case I am pleased to say that the teachers have reported significant improvement in the students’ work and learning.
Finally, as an adult learner myself, and someone who has needed and received extra academic help throughout my life, I understand what it feels like to be on the receiving end of effective tutoring and teaching. This experience guides my work. It would be my privilege to work with you in the future to assist you in your learning!
