Caring, creative, and confidence building coach for German
, European and American history
I have taught students in school settings for six years, tutored for ages. Buoyed by my coaching my tutees made marked measurable progress, irrespective of background or age, from toddler to retiree, from individual with congenital learning issue to graduate student scholar. Pupils in my care love my reasoned faith in their ability to succeed, my confidence fostering focus, and my infectious enthusiasm for any aid, activity and approach that will promote proficiency in the subject.
I am a German native who has lived, studied, and worked in this country since 1983. I came here having studied Classics
and History in Germany (Mainz & Tübingen 1979-1983). I graduated with a Masters of Arts in History from Washington University, St. Louis, MO in 1984. From 1984 to 1989 I taught Latin and History at private schools while visiting night law
school at Temple in Philadelphia. For over 20 years I have been an attorney primarily concentrating on the representation of school aged children in Family and Juvenile Courts. At this juncture in my life I am able to return to my first and foremost passion: educating students in the subjects I love. You would correctly surmise that I am also an avid reader, that I genuinely cherish the craft of composition, and that I appreciate the power of purposed persuasion flowing from the mouths and pens of well educated thinkers.
Tutoring gives me an opportunity to share my love of learning and to use creative ways to inspire mostly younger individuals with a desire for self improvement and excellence. I assess my student's learning style, needs and wants, and create a corresponding individual plan and implementation strategy. While it may be human to err, it is also human to learn. Every child has a natural proclivity to playing, exploring, and learning, often without distinguishing one from the other. I am enthusiastic about each of my subjects, and love to help each student discover their own talents, and acquire confidence in their abilities through guided practices and gradual step ups in achievement.
