I recently graduated from Harvard Divinity School, where I studied literature, philosophy and theology. Before that, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a BA in classics. I have a passion for great writing and love to teach. I've taught literature, philosophy and English in a wide variety of settings- from 10 year-old students in central China, to elite college honors programs.
Thanks for taking the time to consider me for your tutoring needs! I look forward to working with you!
I have a Master in Theological Studies degree from Harvard University, where I took multiple courses in both the New Testament and in early Christianity. I have read substantial portions of the New Testament in Greek, and am familiar with a wide range of biblical scholarship, especially scholarship on the Pauline Epistles. My undergraduate thesis (which received Summa designation) was written on a textual critical dispute in the book of Romans.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Classics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I focused on Greek and Roman literature. During my studies I became proficient in both Latin and Ancient Greek. I have a particular interest and specialty in ancient philosophy from Plato to the schools of Hellenism.
As a graduate student I was required to write 80 pages or more per semester at a high level. This required a lot of editing and proofreading work. Additionally, having studied multiple grammar systems (Greek, Latin, German, and French), I am very familiar with English grammar and conventions. Finally, I have experience editing admissions essays for students who were then accepted to some of the top colleges in the country.
I have a general knowledge of major world religions, and I am familiar with a variety of theoretical frames from which religious texts, experiences and histories might be studied. I hold a Master of Theological Studies degree from Harvard University, where I studied religion from a variety of theoretical stances. I specialized in understanding literature as a site for theological reflection. I also extensively studied early Christianity and contemporary philosophy of religion.
As a graduate student at Harvard, I wrote at least 80 pages of academic, critical prose per semester, and I consistently received high marks. I also write creatively, both short stories and poetry, and recently, my poetry was published in Harvard Divinity School's literary magazine. I consider it a privilege to work with others on their writing, and strive to be both gentle and insightful with my comments. I am particularly good at helping with personal statements and application essays, having helped students get into some of the top programs in the country.
