As a successful biochemistry major in my third year of college, I excel in a wide variety of subjects, including biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, English literature, research and writing. I know not only how to tutor in a variety of subjects, but also how to help students plan to earn the grades they want and score well on tests. I have a firm belief that anyone who wants to is capable of doing well in school and meeting their goals. I'm friendly and personable while focused on the subject at hand.

I've tutored a number of my classmates in the sciences, math, and English, and all have said I've helped them score better on exams. I've also taught people how to do good research so they could find solutions for themselves. I've mentored young people in the Salt Lake Peer Court system as they transformed various life difficulties into academic accomplishments. I have a passion about learning and now I want to offer it to you, along with the skills you need to succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

As a biology major at USF, I have recent and continuing experience in challenging chemistry courses as well as chemistry tutoring. I strive to help my students understand chemistry concepts on an intuitive level so they can tackle a wide range of problems.

English

I score in the 99th percentile in the US in English. I have a background in presentational and journalistic writing as well as public speaking and rhetoric. I am skilled in proofreading as well as coaching and have helped many students successfully. I enjoy taking on new students and working with their specific needs and interests.

Proofreading

I score in the 99th percentile in English in the US, and have a strong writing and speaking/rhetoric background. I have also edited several texts and assisted many fellow students in polishing their papers. I strive to help students master the mechanics of writing so that they can let their unique voices show in their work.

Social Studies

I match the richness and diversity of material presented in social studies courses with my own background in advanced history, politics and theology coursework. I also have a experience in speech and debate that I can use to teach students how to formulate arguments and think critically. My aim is to give students a good factual context for thinking about their world and help them develop their own well-grounded opinions.

Writing

I score in the top of my class in writing, and my work has been in several online publications. I have also performed my poetry and spoken at many university events. When I tutor students in writing, I strive to help them master the mechanics of the writing process so their unique voices can be heard in their work.
