My love for tutoring began to take shape in middle school when I genuinely enjoyed helping others. I continued to foster this passion through high school and college. During my years as an undergrad I went back to my high school to work as a tutor. Within this time I had the opportunity to tutor in several subjects including Math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus), English (Reading, Writing, and Proofreading for grades 9-12), Science (Physics and Biology), SAT Preparation, and College Essay Preparation. This was truly four of the best years of my life, getting to know so many kids and having an impact on their education is what mattered to me.
As a result, following my graduation from Boston University I applied for several Ameri-Corps Positions. I was honored to be a offered a position as a Massachusetts Promise Fellow with MathPOWER, a non-profit organization that promotes higher level math in urban schools. In this position I am a Site Director for one of their 3 Math*STARS after-school programs. I work with children in grades 1-6 in an after school setting to help them with their homework and achieving higher level math skills as well as personal resiliency. This has expanded my experience in tutoring to Elementary Education of all subjects.
I am a dedicated and motivated individual and I would expect nothing but the same from all of my students. I look forward to making an impact on more lives and helping you achieve success in your education.
I received an Undergraduate Certificate in Criminal Justice from Boston University. During my time in the program I did peer tutoring in subjects including general practices, corrections, criminal law, and policing. I have also interned in various criminal justice-related facilities, which allows me to put the concepts into real world scenarios.
I currently work with children in grades 1 to 6 at an after-school program in South Boston, where I am the Site Director for Math*STARS. I spend a lot of time working with children on a variety of subjects ranging from Math, Spelling, Vocabulary, Reading, and others. I work well with the young population because I am patient and I am able to use different strategies of learning to illustrate how to solve problems.
On a day-to-day basis, I am the Site Director for the Math*STARS after school program at the South Boston Boys and Girls Club. In this role, I help students in grades 1-6 with their math skills especially when completing their homework assignments daily.
