Now scheduling summer SAT tutoring!
I am a licensed high school teacher with a master's degree in science teaching. I currently teach biology and environmental science at a local high school. I am qualified to tutor biology, math (through algebra), writing, and test prep (all sections of SAT, biology SAT II, and biology MCAS) and am available in the evenings and on weekends.
In undergraduate, I majored in biology and graduated as valedictorian of my class. I also have a master's of science degree in oceanography. I have worked as a research scientist on several projects both in the lab and in the field. Through my education and my research experiences, I have attained a strong science content background. I also love writing and my professors have always commented on my writing abilities. I have completed three written theses and have published two peer-reviewed scientific papers.
I have experience tutoring high school students in biology (both school courses and biology SAT II prep), algebra I, and SAT prep. I have worked as a college laboratory instructor for both introductory biology as well as anatomy and physiology and have also tutored college students in both of these subjects.
Through these teaching experiences, I have learned how important it is to understand students' thinking so that I can figure out how to best help. I have learned to recognize when students have misconceptions, and I know how to explain topics in multiple ways for students with different learning styles.
Thank you for considering me as your tutor! Now scheduling summer SAT tutoring!

Ashley spent 1.5 hours with my 9th grade daughter to review biology prior to a midterm. Upon Ashley's suggestion, my daughter prepared a list of topics that she wanted help with, and Ashley came prepared to discuss each topic in detail. During the lesson Ashley, drew diagrams of biological processes for my daughter, and my daughter took extensive notes as Ashley clarified her questions. Today my daughter texted me right after her midterm and told me that it made a real difference to work with Ashley, and that she thinks she did well on the midterm. My daughter had asked me to find her a tutor, and I am very happy that we found Ashley. Ashley has years of experience both as a biology tutor and currently as a high school biology teacher. She is a nice person and easy to talk to. I highly recommend Ashley.
Working with Ashley was a pleasure. She was patient and flexible in scheduling. She knew the subject matter and test so well that she could focus attention to what was needed. An absolute fabulous tutor that we recommend highly!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
