The Spanish language and the Arts are my life long passions. I have enjoyed an excellent success rate as a teacher on both fields. With over 15 years of experience as an educator, I have taught Students at every level in both fields.
I am a cultured native spanish speaker with extensive experience teaching Spanish as a foreign language. I have taught students whose first language is English, as well as American raised native spanish speakers who seek to improve their grammar, reading and writing skills.
I have ample experience with students at the beginner level and all the way up to AP Spanish students. I am currently a working educator which keeps me in touch with the expectations of the curriculum, as well as current resources and techniques. Specifically for tutoring, I find it vital to begin with a good assessment of the student's current skills. From that point it is possible to support the student to reach his or her goal with a very animated and interactive targeted approach.

In the Arts, I seek to identify the student's purpose and personal connection to the material or project at hand, to support the student in their own defined goals. Students who have been under my instruction have been admitted to prestigious art schools around the country and many have received generous scholarships based on their skills. I have supported students in the preparation of portfolios for college applications to schools such as Massachusetts college of art and design, The Art Institute and Montserrat College of Art.

Finally, one of my greatest strengths as and educator is my ability to easily establish a rapport with students of various ages, which allows a student to feel safe and encouraged to learn.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

I graduated from the Painting and Printmaking department at Massachusetts college of Art, where I received formal training in Art History for several years. As a life long learner I have continued to read on the History of Art extensively, and have enjoyed the opportunity to teach one or two courses on the subject to students of various levels. Travel to several Art capitals of the US and Europe have given me first hand insight on some of the works of the classic and Modern masters. I am more versed in the history of Western Art, but I have taken courses on Asian Art and have done some research and readings on African and Oceanic Art.

Drawing

I graduated from the Painting and Printmaking Department at Massachusetts college of Art. I have participated in Art exhibits of my own as well as collectives. I also have held teaching certifications to teach art from New York State as well as Massachusetts. I taught art at the middle and high school levels for over 10 years; a large part of those classes centered around mastering drawing skills. I taught many drawing courses at the college level targeted to the needs of students within the graphic design department. My approach to drawing focuses on encouraging the student to learn "to see" and to explore drawing as a tool for expression though experiencing various media and approaches.

Painting

I graduated from the Painting and Printmaking Department at Massachusetts college of Art. I have participated in Art exhibits of my own as well as collectives. I also have held teaching certifications to teach art from New York State as well as Massachusetts. I am able to help a student master several popular painting media including oils, acrylics, water colors and poster paints, as well as more experimental media. I taught art at the middle and high school levels for over 10 years, and I continue to paint today. I have also supported students in the preparation of their college application portfolios.I pride myself in being able to empower a student's creativity rather than simply transmit a technique or instill my own vision.

Spanish

I have been a Spanish teacher at a charter school in Salem, MA, for 9 years with excellent reviews year after year. I have taught levels 1 through AP Spanish. I am experience in working with a student's specific needs and skill level with great results. I obtained a very high score on the MTELL for the Spanish subject K-12, and received an initial license by the state of Massachusetts.
