For several years, I have been enjoying being a substitute teacher for grades 6-12. Through substituting, I am able to stay current with the expectations of the school system in all subjects for grades 6-12. The middle school and high school environment has developed my teaching approach which is focused and welcoming while being scholastically driven.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is understanding FOIL (not aluminum foil for a baked potato) and discovering the method of understanding the slopes and line equations, so that you can identify a slope from two points or draw a line with a slope and a point. Algebra 1 is the start of a student seeing how math skills can translate into the real world, building upon the simplifying of factoring, solving equations and inequalities learned previously.

Prealgebra

The objective of pre-algebra is to prepare the student for algebra I. Pre-algebra is building a bridge between the arithmetic operations in elementary mathematics and algebra. The use of variables and symbols are introduced; as are, probability and statistics. I view these fundamental skills as a way in which to provide an in-sight to real-world applications.

Accounting

Whether you are studying accounting because you want to start your own business and keep your own books (by the way you save a lot of overhead costs doing this) or if you want to enter into the accounting/finance world (which is full opportunity), I have been in both. The understanding of this subject matter is a great subject to capitalize upon.

Elementary Math

Elementary math is the foundation which is needed to build upon for future strong math skills. If the foundation is weak, the structure to follow will also be weak. I approach elementary math material as if building a strong foundation.
