Warm, nurturing reading and math tutor will inspire your child to strive to meet their fullest potential. Expertise includes working with preschool and elementary school age children with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, executive functioning and organizational challenges. Previous students all showed significant gains in reading and math scores and most tested at or above grade level. Early intervention can often remediate potential reading and math delays before they result in failure. Early diagnosis of a learning disability will help you understand learning difficulties and different learning styles and enable your child to receive accommodations and/or services from their school.
I have a graduate degree in Education from Wheelock College and a B.S. in Elementary Education/Special Education from Indiana University. I worked as a Reading Specialist/Resource room teacher in a private school in Watertown, MA and was sought out by many families as a private tutor. I have knowledge and experience working on teams and have represented many students during the Individualized Education Process (IEP).
In my previous position as a Reading Specialist, I evaluated children in grades K-4 and taught individuals and small groups using the Wilson Reading System. Using highly motivational behavioral strategies, I was often commended for inspiring even the most reticent children to work hard to overcome their reading challenges. Entering classrooms to a chorus of young voices calling "take me, take me!," was very rewarding, especially since it meant the children requiring remediation were envied rather than stigmatized by their peers. Assessments of progress showed significant gains in my students and I was highly praised by both parents and professionals.
