For fifteen years, I have worked in various capacities with students that have disabilities at various grade levels from kindergarten to high school. My ability to help these students reach their goals and express their potential is my strongest attribute. I have a deep understanding of both the functional and biological composition of learning as a process and have developed various curricula, behavior programs, and interventions to support students with special needs. I have worked as a special education teacher, parent advocate, crisis intervention specialist, tutor and social skills coach and understand the IEP process from an educational, parental, and legal perspective.

Writing

I am certified in Wilson Reading and trained in several reading programs such as Three Keys to Literacy, Collins Writing and Writers Workshop. I have extensive experience teaching student's with disabilities how to write to pass the MCAS.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have Moderate Special Needs, Elementary, and Middle School Certification and have worked as a special education teacher.

Phonics

I was certified by in Wilson Reading by Gail Jussaume in 2010. I was certified in Project Read Phonology through Endicott College and the Franklin Public School district in 2005.

Study Skills

As a special education teacher, I have worked for many years with students from elementary to high school to develop individualized study strategies. I utilize a technique called meta-cognitive problem solving that helps students to identify their own personal strengths and weaknesses, and then purposefully directs them to learn and develop study strategies based on their unique profile. Through tutoring, students become accustomed to setting, planning, executing and achieving goals.

ADD/ADHD

I am certified as a teacher in Moderate Special Needs, Elementary, and Middle School. I have been tutoring students with ADD and ADHD for at least 12 years, and working with students with a wide range of disabilities in the public school for over 15 years in grades 3-12.
