My name is Mason. I graduated from Bishop Feehan High School as the only male student in the top 10 graduates in my class. I am currently in the Honors Program at Providence College, having received the highest merit scholarship available at the college. My true passion is English writing and literature, and I currently have a 4.0 GPA and am on track to earn a degree in English. Along with my love for English, I am highly proficient in Spanish and acted as a pseudo-translator for my peers on a recent week-long stay in Barcelona. I firmly believe that one-on-one tutoring is the best way to work with a student, because I am able to tailor the curriculum and methods to suit their strengths and needs. To me, there is nothing more satisfying than watching a concept click in a student's mind and knowing that you had a part in it. My career goal is to one day receive my PhD and become a college professor.

During my free time, I serve as the assistant editor for the creative writing section of my school newspaper. I am also a musician, and I love to sing, write music, and play guitar.

Vocabulary

I take a classic approach to teaching vocabulary, especially for the SAT. Rather than having students memorize endless words, I prefer to teach roots, prefixes, and suffixes so that students get an appreciation for the origins of our language.

Grammar

I truly enjoy teaching grammar, a crucial area that I feel most middle and high school curriculums ignore all too hastily.

Reading

Critical reading is a difficult area for a lot of students, but it is one of my favorites. Once you understand how to approach a text properly, critical reading becomes easy and fun!

Spanish

I cannot say enough about my love for the Spanish language. I recently came back from a week in Barcelona where I became a pseudo-interpreter for my peers. I have been studying Spanish for the past 7 years and consider myself very proficient (borderline fluent!).

Writing

Writing is my passion. I am a published poet and a prolific writer in a variety of different mediums (poetry, short stories, etc). I have a great understanding of the grammar of the English language, but I also instill the idea of a student's personal flair and voice in their writing to make it uniquely their own.

English

English is my true passion! I'm on track to earn an English major at Providence College.

Literature

Literature is one of my favorite areas of study, as well as a personal pleasure of mine. Be it dissecting a difficult text or simply perusing for pleasure, I love to read and discuss literature.

Proofreading

I consider myself a very good writer, and I understand both the set-in-stone grammar rules of writing and the greater "feel" of a text. I can share the methods of proofreading and editing that I use in my own writing.

SAT Reading

I received a 780 on the Critical Reading section of my SATs. This is, in my opinion, the hardest section for the average student, but once they understand how to approach various texts with the correct method and mindset, they will learn that this section can be both easy and fun!

SAT Writing

I scored a 730 on the writing section of my SATs. Writing is a passion of mine, both the grammar aspect and the actual work of writing. I enjoy teaching the grammar to students, and love to see when a concept clicks and they learn to apply it to their own writing. I also teach the proper method to approach writing the SAT essay, making that section of the test far less intimidating.

PSAT

I earned a 2100 on my PSATs my Sophomore year of high school, and went on to score a 2250 on my SATs during my Junior year.
