Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

My work as an English teacher is directed toward meeting the needs of international adults. I am able to help with all aspects of language learning. I welcome an opportunity to evaluate a student's needs and develop an instruction plan that will be helpful!

ESL/ESOL

I've been teaching ESL/ESOL for over 30 years and have expertise assisting adult students in all areas of language learning. Teaching and learning English is one of the most enriching life experiences. I am ready to help!

Grammar

I am able to support and teach every grammar level from beginner to advanced-proficiency. Please note, although I love children, my expertise is in teaching adult learners! Thank you.

Literature

Reading literature is a wonderful way to expand your English skills. Experience the rich story telling of the English written word. Improve your language and deepen your insight!

Proofreading

I have helped students revise and proofread written work for academic and professional purposes. I spot errors quickly and make corrections with as little alteration as possible. Your ideas and work will always be respected and look like your own!

Public Speaking

As part of working with International adults on writing, vocabulary, accent reduction and clear speech, I have helped students prepare and practice for interviews, research presentation at professional conferences, and product presentation at international corporations. The students with whom I've worked are international professionals working in the sciences, medicine, law, and business.

Reading

As a college instructor, I have taught students who needed to improve their reading skills. Reading seems one of the most challenging skill areas for an adult. However, assessment, practice of helpful strategies and finding pertinent reading materials have been helpful to students. They have experienced success and increased their self esteem as readers. I would be happy to provide reading support to WyzAnt students!

Spanish

I have taught Spanish as a World Language at the elementary school level. I also served as a bilingual educator in Boston and Newton Public Schools. Spanish is a beautiful, musical language with a long history of influence in the political, artistic, and scientific worlds. I can provide support with conversation, grammar, reading and writing through intermediate level.

Speech

As an ESL/ESOL teacher I have dedicated years to helping international students reduce their accent when speaking English and improve the quality of their speech production in English. Both student and teacher need to make determined efforts in order to see change and improvement in this area. I will be happy to provide instruction and support in all aspects of speaking English as a international learner.

TOEFL

There are many ways to practice for the TOEFL-IBT. Having an experienced coach can polish your performance and raise your score. I am ready to help you assess your needs and focus your efforts. So important in exam preparation is your own self-assurance and calm. Working together we can help you achieve confidence and reach your goals!

Vocabulary

Through reading and conversation together we can build and enhance your vocabulary. If you have a specific area on which you wish to concentrate-business, medicine, psychology, media, any and all can be our focus.

Writing

Adults have many reasons for writing, using both formal and casual English. Whatever your need is, I can help you to improve and excel.
