I am an experienced tutor in math, chemistry, and physics currently working for the Newton Public Schools. I am currently licensed to teach mathematics at the high school and middle school levels, and expect to obtain my certification to teach chemistry later this year. In addition to my experience teaching at the high school level, I also have prior experience teaching at the college level - first as a TA in graduate school in Colorado and later as a TA at Harvard. In both cases I taught classes in physics and chemistry and helped students with their homework assignments. In addition to my background in math and science, I am also highly knowledgeable in economics, history, grammar, and vocabulary. I have scored in the 99th percentile on standardized tests (all sections) and have many helpful test preparation strategies to share with those planning to take the SAT and GRE exams.
My schedule is very flexible, and I'm available most weekends and some weekday afternoons and evenings. My style of teaching and tutoring is structured but also friendly and conversational - I want to make sure you don't just memorize everything but that you actually understand the larger concepts. A key factor in achieving this is motivation - before you can learn anything, you have to *want* to learn. In this regard, I'm pretty good at making even the driest subject matter interesting, whether by relating it to real-world problems, showing how it is relevant to daily life, or sometimes simply by illustrating the value of knowledge for its own sake.
So, give me a try - I think you'll be happy with the results!
