I hold a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Hispanic Studies from Boston College, Class of 2012, Cum Laude. I am returning to Boston College to complete a 1 year Master's program in Curriculum and Instruction. In that time, I will be a Supervisor of practicum students, providing student teachers with feedback on their instruction.
I have experience with all levels of Spanish learners after working with Spanish 1- Spanish 4 Honors during my practicum experiences. I assumed the temporary position as the lead teacher in a Spanish 1 class and a Spanish 2 Honors class and worked with the students on building proficiency with the language. I studied abroad in Granada, Spain during Spring 2011, where I also completed an International practicum, and am passionate about sharing Hispanic culture with my students. Further, I received a 5 on the AP Spanish Language test in high school and am capable of preparing students for the exam.
I believe that students build proficiency with a language through continual practice that uses the language in different ways, rather than primarily using drills. Students should be exposed to the language through reading, writing, and listening activities while being encouraged to orally use the language. I can alter the types of activities according to what the student appears to need to build on, since all students are unique with their learning styles and abilities. I can offer a complete immersion experience since I have studied Spanish for 12 years and have built on my proficiency throughout my teaching experience and time abroad.
During the summer, I work with a recreation day camp and have experience with children ages seven to eleven. I accompany them on field trips and work with both the children and their parents to ensure that the campers have a fun, safe summer.
