I am a career changer who worked as an executive and professional researcher for many years in New York City. Two years ago I left my job and New York to become a teacher. Since that time, I have completed master’s degrees in Teaching and History at Simmons College. I am licensed to teach both middle and high school history, as well as English.
I have had great success in tutoring the reading and writing portion of the SAT/ACT test, as well as the literature, US History and World History subject tests. I have numerous tips and tricks for making the best selections on the multiple choice portions of the test (even when you are not sure of the answer). I can also provide guidance for building essays that conform to the standards used in grading the written portion of the test.
In addition to test prep, I can provide tutoring in History and English Language Arts. I am familiar with most areas taught as part of the social studies curriculum. I have always had a passion for history and am well read in both popular and academic history. I have taken courses in colonial, nineteenth and twentieth century American history, and have had a paper published on finding local abolitionists. I have also studied world history extensively, and worked as a researcher on a world history textbook. I have taught US History, World History and World Cultures. In addition to standard history courses, I can tutor in Political Science and Economics.
I am also well versed in the books used in the typical middle school and high school curriculum. I can also provide step by step guidance in creating effective essays.
I have tutored many students and had great success in raising their grades. I have worked with both struggling students working hard just to pass and with stronger students looking to raise their grades so that they will have a better opportunity to get into the college of their choice. I am very flexible in my methods, and do my best to find a way to connect with a student's natural learning strengths.
