I am an enthusiastic, experienced tutor with great reviews the greater Boston area. In the past three years, I have helped raise test scores and confidence for dozens of students, taking the SAT, ACT, and SAT II tests. I also teach essay writing and college courses, such as psychology, history and English. My students generally meet me in a local library or my home, in Newton Centre. My clients come with a wide range of backgrounds and skills, and I love working with teenagers, from 8th grade through college seniors.
A critical part of being a successful tutor is finding a 'meeting of the minds' for communicating with and motivating each student and their parents. You will find me reliable and flexible, in terms of location, schedule and customized material.
My students find our lessons creative and enjoyable. As a long-time WyzAnt tutor, I have great references as well as proven success. My preferred approach is to present customized lessons, tailored to each student's strengths and weaknesses. With a Harvard BA and a law degree, and the maturity of many years of business and legal experience, tutoring has become a great way for me to have a real impact.
Plus I love to teach! I have developed broad expertise tutoring for graduate school entrance exams, SAT and ACT, raising student scores by up to 200 points on average for the SAT, for example. Many types of students benefit, ranging from from those frustrated with their test-taking skills in general, to top students who want to strengthen their scores in one or more areas. Many students find my tips about test-taking helpful in addressing their test anxiety, focus issues, and building up skills that are transferable to their school work in general.
I love tutoring and motivating students to do their best. My work with students at all levels shows that we can make real progress in six to ten sessions, ideally 90 minutes or two hours, with outside homework as well. Most students prefer weekday afternoon and evening times, and I also teach on Sundays (not Saturdays).
I offer excellent tutoring in all areas: writing, math, and reading tutoring on the SAT as well as the ACT. In particular, I have great tools for improving your writing skills, grammar, vocabulary and essay scores.
Sample lesson topics include: math technical skill building, tips on identifying 'trick' questions, study tricks for vocabulary drills, grammar lessons that are lively and interesting, and general strategy.
I offer reasonable rates for an experienced college-prep tutor, averaging about $90 per hour, depending upon the location and circumstances (for example, I offer packages with a discount for prepayment, or to help with essay-writing or college application advising). I am lively, patient, and skilled at make the tutoring sessions interesting and often fun.
NOTE: I have had great success helping college and grad school applicants with their interview prep, application strategy, personal statements as well as drafting and editing application essays.
I hope to hear from you and answer any questions you might have.
