Recently retired Chem Engineer who enjoys teaching math

Now that I have the time, I am eager to teach high school level math to all students whether or not they share my enthusiasm. I have 3 years experience of formal tutoring of students at all levels of ability, and I have many years of experience in the corporate world. I have a 100% recommend rate from the students I have tutored. I am routinely taking college level math courses to keep up with the trends in academia.
Some of my recent tutoring experience is volunteer work at a local school related program, so I have had all the appropriate background vetting.

I live in the Newburyport area and am willing to travel up to 20 miles in any direction. I would go slightly farther for a particularly interesting challenge.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 can be a bit intimidating at first, but I am patient and I try to show the student that Algebra makes mathematics even more fun. I am also eager to work with those students who already enjoy Math and want to excel in Algebra 1 and move on to Algebra 2 and beyond.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is when things start to get interesting. I will demonstrate this in our tutoring sessions. I also enjoy communicating the beauty of math by illustrating how alternative solutions will all result in the same answer. Although I do not teach SAT Math per se through this venue, I will ensure that my coaching will also benefit the student in the Math SAT.

Calculus

Calculus is essential in engineering- I know this first hand.
I routinely take calculus courses at local colleges to keep up to speed in this level of math.

Geometry

Geometry is an enjoyable subject to teach/tutor. I am convinced that any student, with the proper coaching, can do well in this subject

Prealgebra

This is pretty basic stuff, but it is fun to teach as it begins to open the eyes of a student to the power of math.

Precalculus

This covers a broad range of math topics, but I am prepared to provide whatever the student needs. In order to keep current in this area I took a college level Precalculus 2 class in 2010 and received a grade of A. (This was followed by Calc 1 and then Calc 2 in 2011. A's here also)

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is simply the study of triangles and the relationships between sides and angles. It is frequently taught as a part of Precalculus. Trig functions must be well understood before the student moves on to Calculus.

SAT Math

SAT Math is particularly enjoyable to teach. The math itself is basic and but the questions can be very tricky.
