Currently I'm a Program Manager at EMC, a large technology company in Hopkinton, MA. I graduated from Colby College in Waterville, ME with a major in Economics, minor in Business, and honors in Computer Science in May 2012. In high school I played basketball, lacrosse, and baseball and continued playing varsity basketball while at college. I possess the following characteristics and experiences that I believe will make me a successful tutor: I'm responsible, patient, and understanding. I have a love for teaching and a great ability to connect with people of all ages. I've coached, tutored, and mentored children of all ages in sports, school, and life. Lastly, I'm flexible enough to adopt to the specific needs of the student.
My tutoring approach is quite simple: connect, goal, and achieve. In the first stage, I believe it is very important to connect with the student. This builds a foundation of understanding and trust, which is critical to the success of our future sessions. The next stage is goal. Through discussion and collaboration, both the student and their parents will develop a list of goals they wish to achieve from the tutoring sessions. From these goals, I will derive a curriculum tailored specifically to the needs of the student and their parents to drive success throughout the achieve phase. The connect and goal phases will be accomplished in the first tutoring session while the achieve phase will be scheduled according to goals.
