Dear Students and Parents,

I am a great teacher who makes learning fun with tons of experience working with students from elementary school through graduate school. I graduated at the top of my class at both Northeastern University in Boston and at Columbia University School of Public Health in New York with a master's degree in public health (MPH).

I have served as the director of a Math and Science Summer Program at Bentley College for High School students. In addition, I have been a high school science teacher, substitute teacher, college teaching assistant and graduate school statistics tutor. My business background includes over thirty years as a senior health care consultant to some of the biggest corporations in America. I can help students in both math and science but my favorite subjects also include American history, social studies and sports!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 will cover every aspect of problem solving from the first chapter to last in a student's current text book. This course will prepare students for daily assignments, homework, tests and all mid-term and final exams. Course should be called Algebra 1 plus
since we will cover other math concepts such as statistics and SAT prep problem solving!

American History

This course will provide significant insight into all aspects of American History from the early explorers, the American Revolution to World War II and modern times. History was my favorite subject since grade school and I went on to be a History Honors student in both high school and college. At Northeastern University I was taught by one of the most prominent professors of New England history. I have continued my love of history by spending a life time visiting historical places, reading books and watching the History Channel every week!

Basketball

I have been a lifelong basketball fan, player and also a coach. I began playing against my older brothers and their friends at an early age. I played throughout grammar school, high school, college, graduate school and well into my adult life.

I have coached/tutored both an adult men's team and at the grammar school and high school level on an informal level, one on one. I coached both my niece and nephew how to play the game.

The key always begins with the fundamentals, how to dribble, pass and shoot the ball. The importance of guiding your shot and follow through will be emphasized. The next key is to how to utilize the backboard. The bank shot is a lost art, but makes scoring a whole lot easier by expanding the ways to score a basket. The next key is to learn how to position yourself to get offensive rebounds and to score quickly off a rebound.

The lesson learned also will include how to play defense by using your feet, body and hands. A huge part of defense is getting a rebound and passing the ball quickly to go on offense. By learning how to guard another player will make you a better offensive player.

Since I was small for my age, I learned to take advantage of my quickness. When I grew to be bigger I learned to take advantage of my size and strength.

A critical part of all sports is to know, understand and use all the rules of the game to your advantage. I have been an avid fan, player and coach for over 50 years.

I can teach you "how to play the game to win."

College Counseling

College counseling is an area were I can truly be effective. I was a very successful college student and worked as a Teaching Assistant (TA) in college and grad school. I had several excellent faculty mentors who taught and encouraged me and I know I can do the same for college students who need advice and counseling.

I saw first hand how students who did not apply themselves were hurt in college and later in life with dead end job and careers.

I also witnessed students who were so stressed they could not function or perform. I can help students deal with the stress and demands of college because I went through it myself and also have helped others. My own sister had real problems during freshmen year but I helped her through it and she not only graduated but went on to get her MBA.

I can help through a combination of coping skills and study skills to help deal with all the stress involved in going to college and help make it fun!

Elementary (K-6th)

I can provide tutoring for children from K through 12 in all subjects. I have several years experience as a substitute teacher in K through 6th grade. It was in the 6th grade that I went from being a B student to becoming A Student because of the encouragement of a very special teacher at that age. I learned that students at a young age accept that they are good, average or poor students and go on to live up to those expectations throughout grade school, high school and college. The key is to take a special interest in young children and make them believe that they can be an A student and help make them proud of themselves by building higher self-esteem. I had a teacher do that for me in the 6th grade that lasted a lifetime for me. I can do the same for your son or daughter by making them want to learn and have fun doing it.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar for forty years with friends, at parties and at local venues.

Guitar lessons will include not only how to make all the basic chords but the music theory behind the guitar.

Lessons will include techniques on how to move from chord to chord by knowing how to place your fingers to make the chord changes easier. Lessons will include how to play in key, all the major, minor chords and 7th chords, along with mastering all the Bar Chords. Music style taught is ideal for rock n roll, blues and country.

Learn how to jam with your friends. Music lessons taught are designed for playing rhythm guitar. Find out why other guitar players call me "ACE". Lessons ideal for beginners and early stage guitar players.

Public Speaking

I have extensive experience and formal training in public speaking. As a national consultant and practice director at large employee benefit consulting companies I have been the guest speaker at dozens of national conferences over the course of 25 years.

One of the highlights of my career was being the guest speaker with the Labor Policy Association in Washington DC where I spoke with Senators, Congressmen and the Secretary of Labor.

My company provided me with formal training and a speech coach who trained a vice presidential candidate for his national debates. My public speaking profile is extensive and I was consistently rated among the best public speakers at national conferences throughout my career.

I am one of the best tutors and speech writers for public speaking in the country.

Sociology

I am a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, where I received a B.S. degree in Sociology with high honors. My grade point average was 3.7/4.0

I was awarded Departmental Honors by the faculty of the Sociology Department.

I went on to receive a Master's in Public Health from Columbia University.

Softball

I have been playing and coaching softball for over 30 years. Until very recently I have been playing in a very competitive men's softball league versus players 20 to 30 years younger than me, both slow-pitch and modified fastball.

I have been the coach of both men's and women's softball teams and bring a robust knowledge and love for the game.

The key to softball is knowing and teaching the fundamentals. The winning team and the best players know how to play defense! Unless you can get the other team out it is going to be a long day. The next key is to know and teach the game such as when and how to run the bases.

I have played just about every position, pitcher, catcher, first base, second base, third base, middle fielder and outfield.

Of course hitting is an art that can be taught with the correct swing, batting stance and ability to hit to all fields.

I would love to continue to be able to coach softball. Tons of people would tell you I am your guy to coach.

Study Skills

The reason I was such a successful student in college and graduate school where I graduated with high honors and received several scholarships and awards were due to my study skills.

I graduated from a Jesuit College Prep High School with very demanding academic standards. It was at this young age that I learned study skills that allowed me to plan my studies one day at a time, while preparing for the final exams. On the first day of class in college and grad school I put together a study plan and calendar that allowed me to get Straight A's, while not getting too stressed out. Before I took a final exam I was able to guess right on 90% of the questions that would be asked. I can teach students "how to study" so they can look forward to taking a test and/or an exam.

School is so much more fun and rewarding when a student knows how and what to study and get good grades. I can help you or your son or daughter with study skills to learn how to be a great student and have fun doing it!
