I am an independent educator with a career of teaching experience and a lifelong interest in science and mathematics. I also became deeply involved in computers when I saw how they can be used in those fields. I enjoy sharing my love of these topics with others, and that led me to study education methods to be sure I am as effective as possible. I seek to understand my audience as well as possible. As a tutor this means to have a true dialog with the student, to listen carefully to understand how they are understanding the lesson, and to respond using my knowledge of the topic and the learner. Although I am not formally trained in special education, this approach has allowed me to be successful with students in need of individualized approaches.
I have over 20 years experience in various educational settings including private and public schools, museums and nature centers, as well as private math classes and tutoring. I have worked with all age ranges from pre-school through adult. My subject areas include natural sciences such as ecology, earth science, astronomy, and physical science. Mathematics is the language of science and I have studied that deeply over the years. I also am a digital photographer. I belong to several photography groups, including two that have admission by portfolio review, the Massachusetts Camera Naturalists and the Pioneer Valley Photographic Artists.
I look forward to helping you meet your educational goals.
