I moved to Melrose, MA from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for my husband's job and for the opportunity to stay at home with our 2 year old son. Before moving I worked for 9 years in the same school district doing a variety of different jobs. I started off my education career teaching grades 2 and 3 for five years. I then decided I wanted a change and moved into special education while I pursued my Master's in Education. I taught a Learning Assistance program for students who were more than two years behind grade level in grades 3 and 4 as well as a resource program for reading and writing for students who were about one year behind grade level. The following year I was promoted to become the special education coordinator for an elementary school of 600 students. In this capacity I completed level B testing for students of concerns, programmed for students with learning difficulties as well as emotional/behavioral troubles. I worked closely with speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, physicists and mental health workers. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching and coordinating and found it hard to leave when the time came to move but I love every moment I get to spend with my son! I would like to continue to help students and keep myself fresh and current with the latest educational pedagogy and hoped that tutoring in the evenings would provide that!
