I am presently making a career transition after working as a social worker for 22 years. I have been enrolled at Salem State University in their Graduate Education Program in Teaching English Language Learners since 2009. I teach English Language Courses to adults through the Everett Adult Learning Center and have thoroughly enjoyed working with highly motivated students who are immigrants and refugees. My students' native languages include Spanish, Haitian-Creole, Brazilian Portuguese, French and Vietnamese. In addition, I serve as the agency's Coordinator of Curriculum Development.
As a social worker, I have worked with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds and enjoy learning from my students/clients. I learned as a social worker how important it is for persons living in the United States to master the English in order to take full advantage of the opportunities available in this country. In addition to teaching English language, I also aim to teach students about American Culture and history to assist them in adapting to a foreign environment.
I seek to empower my students to flourish in the United States. Teaching is a creative profession, and I am flexible in adjusting my teaching to meet the student's goals. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and welcome the opportunity to work as a tutor.
