I am formally trained in the Orton Gillingham method and can work with both children and adults struggling with dyslexia, reading & writing. I am a certified teacher with a passion for literacy and for helping individual students learn and grow. I hold a Master's degree in Elementary Teaching from Simmons College and an undergraduate degree in English from Regis College. I love working one-on-one with students because it offers the opportunity to tailor instruction and assistance to the individual student's needs.
For the spring and summer of 2015 I will have select availability for Orton Gillingham method tutoring. I am available to assist all grade levels in both reading and writing, and I can also work with elementary level students in all areas of the curriculum. I also assist students with both study skills and test taking strategies. I believe strongly in assisting each student with the development of strong executive functioning skills such as organization, prioritization, task management, self checking of work, establishing routines, etc. Strengthening these skills creates a strong foundation for individual growth and helps to establish repeated success for every student.
I have worked with a wide range of students from those needing just a little assistance with their writing, to students with greater learning challenges. It is important to me that no matter what type of student I work with, we develop an individually tailored plan that aims to meet the specific needs of that student. I'm an advocate for open communication with parents and encourage parents to be as involved in the learning process as they are comfortable.
As a mom of three I am also active in our community, coordinating our children's liturgy at church, teaching two religious ed classes each week (second & ninth grades), teaching adult ed photography classes and running a successful photography business out of my home. I have high standards and can be a bit of a perfectionist. As a result it is important to me that you are completely satisfied with the work I do with your student.
Please feel free to get in touch with me if you think I might be able to help your student. I look forward to working with you! I am formally trained in the Orton Gillingham method and can work with both children and adults struggling with dyslexia, reading & Read more
Lisa has been great with my daughter. She recognized my daughter's struggles and has been great helping her to strategize how to work through her difficulties! She has been great to work with.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I'm a certified teacher in both elementary education as well as high school & middle school. I've taught in the public schools and for a private local tutoring center. At the center of all my work with students is a strong foundation of creating strong and independent organizational & study skills.
